WINGS

Women In God's Service is what we call our ladies ministries under the direction of a WINGS committee consisting of Letha Huddleston, Doris Lindsi Edwards, Ann Schroeder, Vickie Williamson, and Kim Birdsong.  These sisters meet often to plan and coordinate an active, balanced program of work and spiritual growth for women of the congregation.  They also serve as a resource for  helping carry out a number of fellowship activities.  To name just a few things with which WINGS is involved:  Ladies Classes, monthly devotionals, planning special mother/daughter events, promoting area-wide Ladies programs and sponsoring efforts to encourage family members who are serving in the military around the world.  WINGS also helps to plan something special around the Christmas holiday.  The table below provides a brief glimpse into women's related activities over the past year.

Currently the WINGS committee members have taken on a responsibility to help update and improve the appearance of Hartford's buildings and to plan periodic events for women throughout the year.  Anyone with ideas for women's ministries, or who has questions concerning this work, please feel free to contact one of the committee members.

 Women Walking With God Conference

(Wichita, KS April 2011)

Eleven of our sisters made this year's WWWG Conference in Wichita.  The theme for this year's event was "Leaving a Legacy" and it made a lasting impact on every woman who attended.  Gay Webb said, "I don't intend to ever miss one of those!"

"...things that we have heard and known, that our fathers have told us.  We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done.  He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel, which he commanded our fathers to teach to their children, that the next generation might know the, the children yet unborn, and arise and tell them to their children."   Psalm 78:3-6

The Road to Forgiveness, a study by Nancy Eichman

Ladies are invited to a Bible Study which meets every two weeks, beginning Wednesday, September 22.  We will meet from 10am to 11am every other week.  Wings has chosen to study Nancy Eichman's new book, The Road to Forgiveness.  It is a much needed study for all of us and one which should interest our friends and neighbors as well.  Books are available for all who wish to be a part of the class.  They will be available at the first class meeting.

A salad luncheon is planned for the first meeting, and all of our ladies are encouraged to remain for that.  Bring a salad and a friend, and make this an important part of your walk with God.

 Vintage Fashion Show

November 7, 2009

The ladies enjoyed viewing vintage clothing presented by Lilly Strickland.  It brought back memories from the 30's to the 50's for some of us and others were facinated and delighted to reminisce with those who remembered the clothes.  One dress displayed was over 100 years old.

Chrisy, Samantha and Jaymee were some of the models from our congregation.

Spiced tea and scones were served for refreshments and each table centerpiece displayed a teapot in which one lady from each table won as a doorprize.

It was a fun afternoon with an attendance of 56.  Thank you to all the ladies involved in making this event a huge success.

 Bessie Lofton's Birthday

August 24, 2009

Thirteen ladies traveled to Winfield to enjoy lunch at the Ridge, then traveled to Cumbernauld Nursing Center to celebrate Bessie Lofton's 89th birthday with cake and ice cream.  This was a happy occasion and she related how much she missed the Ponca City group.  We gathered in the "Peach and Horn" room.  Some of the ladies blew up balloons, some decorated the tables, and one serenaded her with a song "Aint she sweet?".  Bessie was so happy and thanked us with a little speech of her own.  We love and miss her and wished her happy and healthy years to come.  Her daughter, Helen, was also in attendance and took the pictures.  Thank you to Vickie for being our chauffer.

 Women & Girls Brunch

             June 13th, '09

What I know for sure (a book by Tabitha Smalley)and the theme for our ladies' brunch which was held in our fellowship room on Saturday, June 13, 2009.  The tables were decorated with yellow and white tablecloths.  At each place setting there was a journal for the women or young girls in attendance.

Jacquline Nunley, daughter of our own Barbara Moore spoke, choreographed and sang her way to our hearts.  She emphasized that there are some things we can know for sure, such as:'I know my Redeemer lives' (Jn 17:17); 'I can trust God because He keeps His promises (Duet.7:9); and 'He is coming back for His children'.  She encouraged the women to write down in our journals, 'things I know for sure' and as the years go by it would become a 'faith builder'.  Jacquline encouraged the young girls in attendance to feel comfortable by including each to help her with presenting her lecture.  Her lesson focused on our faith in God in all trials, our hope and our love.  At the conclusion of her class she graciously received three plaques that had "faith, hope and love" on them as appreciation for her efforts.  Forty-five women and girls enjoyed the morning with delicious quiche dishes and a mixed fruit bowl with a variety of muffins.
